Paleo + Airplane Travel = Roll your own food

As I write this, I happen to find myself flying the not so paleo-friendly skies to Mexico. Mexico, land of the corn tortillas, and the “three sisters”, the 3 crops that have sustained the native and modern population for 4 millennia: Rice, beans and corn. Not paleo-friendly! More on this as the trip progresses.

Not to single out any airline, as I am sure they are all equally challenging, but Flight AC 1254 to Cancun is bereft of any purchasable sustenance other than sandwiches. It is a 3 hour and 45 minute flight. What’s a modern savage to do?

With better planning, I should have packed something like this:

In-Flight Paleo-friendly Salmon and Nut mix

1 Big fist full of unsalted, roasted almonds
1 half fist full of salmon jerky
1 half fist full of dried cranberries, or other currents.

Salmon jerky in a nut mix? Trust me on this, the crunchy texture of the almonds along with chewy texture of the salmon and dried fruit

Chuck all the ingredients in a plastic bag, stuff in a coat pocket or laptop bag, board the plane and enjoy with a tall glass of water. Delicious.
